How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on Gable Farm starts with one question: will this food processor handle the jobs you bought it for? That means the food you prep most, how many people you cook for and how much counter and cabinet space you have.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the job

Chopping one onion, shredding a block of cheese and kneading pizza dough ask very different things of a machine.

A 3-cup chopper is quick for small tasks but can't slice a pile of potatoes. A 14-cup processor handles big batches but takes more room and more cleanup.

We match each model to the jobs it suits, and we say plainly when a smaller or bigger machine makes more sense.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at bowl size, motor power, blade types, slicing and shredding discs, feed tube width, controls, weight and what comes in the box.

Makers describe their machines in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms each maker lists.

3. We look at owner feedback

We read what owners report after using a model. We look for patterns, like lids that are hard to lock, bowls that leak with liquids, motors that strain on dough and parts that crack in the dishwasher.

One bad review doesn't sink a model. A pattern does.

4. We score each model

Our score weighs specs, features and owner feedback against what you're shopping for. A model that suits one reader may score lower in a guide written for another.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages current

Models change, colors come and go, and some listings disappear. Several brands sell look-alike models with similar names, so we check each model number and link only new units.

We skip models with a known recall, and we skip renewed or refurbished listings. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have used every model we cover.

Food processor blades are very sharp. Follow the maker's manual for assembly, cleaning and safe use, and keep fingers clear of the blade and feed tube.
